¿Y si vienen The Cardigans?

En nuestra carta de Reyes pedimos que trajeran a The Cardigans al CC14. En realidad no limitamos nuestro sueño imposible al CC14, pueden venir a donde, cuando y como se les dé la regalada gana. Ciertamente considero este hecho como improbable, pero ayer me puse a pensar: ¿y si vinieran The Cardigans? ...obviamente si mi corazón sobreviviera a tal sorpresa estaría presente en dicho evento a como diera lugar. Una segunda hipótesis surgió en mi cabeza ¿qué canciones tocarían? ...esa pregunta se responde fácilmente echándole un ojo a su historial de setlists. Pero hay una pregunta más importante: ¿qué canciones me gustaría que tocaran?

Mi repaso por su discografía arroja un repertorio ideal (para mí, aclaro) de 25 canciones, que no suena tan descabellado para una presentación en solitario pero si bastante extenso para una presentación en festival. De cualquier forma, sería un placer escuchar en vivo cualquiera de estas piezas. Vamos paso a paso:

Emmerdale: fue editado allá por 1994, cuando yo solamente tenía unos escasos 7 años de vida. En plena infancia pues. De la primera placa de The Cardigans me gustaría escuchar y cantar las líneas de las siguientes canciones:

• Sick & Tired: "You can always say you did no major harm, you can always say that summer had its charm and that you did no major harm, oh, spare me if you please..."


• After All...: "After all you were perfectly right, though our relation just split me in two and on a night like this pieces fall apart, visions fall apart"


• Rise & Shine: "I want to see the wounded moon, I want the sea to break through, I want it all to be gone tomorrow so I've come to say goodbye..."

Life: un año después de su debut, The Cardigans entregan otra sublime obra bajo la misma línea del Emmerdale, tanto que no se percibe la diferencia de un disco a otro:

• Carnival: "I will never know, cause you will never show, come on and love me now, come on and love me now"


• Gordon's Gardenparty: "We were swinging on so nice, bubbly pink champagne on ice. Nancy, Jacques Closeau and Claire, I believe they all were there having the time of their lives"


• Travelling with Charley: "My agent hasn't solved a case, my agent never finds a trace but Charley has always style, Charley is always nice"


• Hey! Get out of My Way: "Hey! get out of my way, hey! hey! hey! You've always been in my way, this is all that I will say, this is all that I will do, I'm not in love with you!"

First Band on the Moon: fue en 1996 cuando lanzaron su tercer disco, el disco que traía la canción que hizo que el mundo entero pusiera sus ojos en The Cardigans. Todavía recuerdo la primera vez que escuché "Lovefool". Iba en el coche con mis papás y mi hermanito, era noche y estábamos en el D.F. camino a casa. Justo antes de dar la vuelta para tomar Insurgentes Norte nos detuvimos en un alto. Empecé a jugar con la radio y de repente en una estación estaba sonando "Lovefool". Creo que fue la primera canción (que no era de las que escuchaban mis papás) que me enamoró por completo. Desde ese momento me hice fan devoto:

• Your New Cuckoo: "Let's say forever, let's say it's true, let's come together, me and you"


• Been It: "I've been you mother, I've been your father, who can ask me for more? I've been your sister, I've been your mistress maybe I was your whore, who can ask me for more?


• Lovefool: "Lately I have desperately pondered, spent my nights awake and I wonder: what I could have done in another way to make you stay?"

Gran Turismo: este debe ser mi segundo disco favorito de The Cardigans. Así de plano. He intentado conseguir el LP por internet pero alcanza estratosféricos precios de hasta 3,000.00 MXP (más envío)...

• Paralyzed: "This is where your sanity gives in and love begins, never lose your grip, don't trip, don't fall, you'll lose it all..."


• Erase/Rewind: "Yes, I said it's fine before, I don't think so no more, I said it's fine before, I've changed my mind, I take it back"


• Explode: "Ease your trouble, we'll pay them double, not to look at you for a while. And you rely on what you get high on and you last just as long as it serves you"


• My Favourite Game: "And this is not a case of lust, you see, it's not a matter of you versus of me, it's fine the way you want me on your own but in the end it's always me alone"


• Do You Believe: "Do you really think that love is gonna save your soul? Well I sure hope so, oh I really, really hope so... but I don't think so!"


• Junk of the Hearts: "I know that I've done you wrong but you're hard to please. When your faith is gone and when you can't believe, I'm on my hands and knees"

Long Gone Before Daylight: mi disco favorito sin lugar a dudas. Mismo caso que el Gran Turismo cuando se trata de conseguir el LP (si alguna vez quieren regalarme algo que me haga infinitamente feliz, ya saben dónde comprarlo...). Muchas de mis canciones favoritas de The Cardigans se encuentran en este disco:

• Communication: "Well this is an invitation, it's not a threat, if you want communication that's what you get. I'm talking and talking but I don't know how to connect and I hold a record for being patient with your kind of hesitation"


• You're the Storm: "You fill my heart, you keep me breathing 'cause you're the storm that I believe in"


• And Then You Kissed Me: "Love, you’re news to me, you’re a little bit more then I thought you’d be: a mole in my well fed lawn, you’re a nightmare beating the dawn. Oh! it hits me like never before that love is a powerful force, yes, it struck me that love is a sport so I pushed you a little bit more. Blue, blue, black and blue, red blood sticks like glue, true love is cruel love, red blood is a power fuel, sweet love tasty blood, my heart overfloods"


• For What It's Worth: "Hey please baby come back! there'll be no more loving attack and I'll be keeping it cool tonight. The four letter word is out of my head, come on around get back in my bed, keep making me feel alright. For what it's worth I like you and what is worse I really do, things have been worse and we had fun, fun, fun till I said I love you and what is worse... I really do!"


• Lead Me Into the Night: "I went too far, yes I came too close, I drove away the one that I loved the most, now I ride the tight on a boat made of sand, I’m sailing for another to guide me to land"


• 03.45: No Sleep: "But if I had one wish fulfilled tonight I'd ask for the sun to never rise, if God passed a mic to me to speak I'd say "Stay in bed, world, sleep in peace"

Super Extra Gravity: la última placa discográfica de The Cardigans es la que se ha ganado el tercer puesto en cuestión de favoritos. Desde 2005 se echa de menos algo de música nueva de estos suecos...

• Losing a Friend: "And it's keeping me up, it's the ribbons I tied, I would rather just die, go to hell and crawl back than let you go"


• Godspell: "Yes we wait, we wait and we wait"


• I Need Some Fine Wine and You, You Need to Be Nicer: "It's the good times that we share and the bad times that we'll have, it's the good times and the bad times that we had"
